Magdalena Fernandez
was born in 1964 in Caracas, Venezuela.
She began her career
in graphical arts at Boston University, the Faculty of Education at the Andres
Bello Catholic University, and after graduating as a graphic designer at the
Neumann Institute of Caracas, travels to Milan where she studied in AG
Fronzoni’s atelier, minimalist Italian designer. She has, since the nineties,
participated in important solo and group exhibitions, and operated on
architectural spaces. Highlights from her career include exhibitions in Zurich
Konstructiv Haus, Muzeum Sztuki in Lodz, Poland, the Museum of Contemporary Art
in Caracas, the Soto Museum of Ciudad Bolivar in Venezuela, the Bronx Museum of
Art in New York, Museum of Latin American Art in California, Frost Museum at
the Florida International University, Instituto de Canarias Cabrera Pinto de la
Laguna, University Museum del Chopo in Mexico City; Cisneros Fontanals Art
Foundation in Miami. In 2009, she represented Venezuela at the 53rd Venice
Biennale. Fernandez lives and works in Caracas.
